Report: Tottenham may have to pay £20m to sign 22-year-old

|

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are interested in Dael Fry and could battle Manchester City, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature. The 22-year-old has been a regular in recent weeks for Middlesbrough and even captained the side against Bristol City at the end of August.

As per Transfermarkt, Fry has represented England u17s (8 appearances), u18s (five appearances), u19s (10 appearances), u20s (10 appearances) and u21s (11 appearances, 2 goals). The centre-back has played 69 games for Middlesbrough since rising through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2015.

Fry is highly-rated at Boro and won’t come cheap – TEAMtalk say it will take a bid of £20m to procure his signature. He still has two years on his deal at the Riverside Stadium which means Boro are in a strong negotiating position.

Tottenham’s interest in Fry comes with the future of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen being uncertain. The duo are out of contract next summer and little progress has been made in tying them down to an extension – Mauricio Pochettino could be left with Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth and Eric Dier as a makeshift option.

Whether Spurs move for Fry in January or next summer remains to be seen, however.
