Report: Tottenham keen on Dutchman with 11 goals & 12 assists, could break transfer record

|

According to De Telegraaf (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are interested in Steven Bergwijn. The PSV Eindhoven forward has been outstanding this season and is on the wishlist of many European clubs as a result of his form in the Dutch Eredivisie – Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan are all credited with an interest.

Bergwijn has scored 11 goals and made 12 assists for a PSV side who are currently top of the table after 25 games this season. The 21-year-old joined PSV from Ajax in 2011 and rose through their youth ranks to the first-team four years later to become a key player.

The Netherlands international has already made 111 appearances for his club and could break the Dutch transfer record if he was to depart the Philips Stadium. It’s hard to see Tottenham making a move for Bergwijn, however, unless they sold an existing player.

Mauricio Pochettino has Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela to choose from in attack, so why does he need Bergwijn? Tottenham have a fervent need to strengthen their midfield, so it’s unlikely that the talented 21-year-old will be on their radar.
