Recent Disappointment At Spurs Is Fine, But Can We Keep A Grip On Reality

|

With Saturday’s disappointing and completely avoidable defeat for Tottenham Hotspur at the hands of Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, there’s certainly been the expected fallout in the fanbase.

Topics of conversation following the defeat have focused on the overall quality and depth of the squad and that leads itself to a failure to strengthen during both the summer and January transfer windows and then we span into ongoing Stadium delays (although it nears with every passing day) and the true focus of the owners.

Whatever side of the fence you actually sit on, once you get past the red mist of defeat, and even if you have to remove the domestic Cups from the equation, this season has still been a massive success when it comes to how close we were for a period to top spot in the Premier League and our ongoing Champions League campaign.

Factor in the lack of strengthening and our injuries, and the use of youth and ongoing development for the younger lads who are established first team options and I get the disappointment, but not the outrage.

With the Stadium (eventually) sorted, next summer is obviously massive to ensure we continue on an upward curve but given everyone (unless you think we have a divine right to win every game) would’ve taken where we find ourselves at the moment at the beginning of the season, can we not forget steps forward and become an entitled fanbase who demand perfection from an imperfect game.

Maybe it’s just me?
