Report: Fulham 0-1 Spurs

|

Harry Kane’s record-equalling goal just before half-time earned Tottenham Hotspur a vital three points over Fulham in a Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage.

In a tense start, Bobby de-Cordova Reid forced Hugo Lloris into a sprawling save from a long-range effort early on.

Harrison Reed then hit a close-range effort straight at Lloris when placing the ball on either side of the Frenchman would have given the Cottagers the lead as Fulham peppered the Spurs box with plenty of crosses as the first half wore on.

Ben Davies volleyed over a difficult chance from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s powerful cross as the first half approached a dull finale, until Harry Kane received the ball from Heung-min Son from a half-cleared corner, turned past Tim Ream and fired Spurs in front from the edge of the area, equalling Jimmy Greaves as Ssurs’ all-time record goal with his 265th goal for the club.

Kane had the chance to double Spurs’ lead and overtake Greaves’ record, but his header from close range was superbly tipped over the bar by Bert Leno.

Fulham then squandered a chance to level up when Aleksandr Mitrovic ran past the Spurs defence unchecked from a free-kick but hit his effort across goal with no one there to turn it in.

The second half fizzled out with little incident of note occurring, and Spurs hung on to a hard-earned three points that put daylight between them and the sides below them, and simultaneously reduces the gap to Newcastle and Manchester United in third and fourth to three points, albeit with both sides having a game in hand on Spurs.
