Mauricio Pochettino rumours intensify – as direct talks begin

|

The uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs (read here) has led to many fans wondering who could replace the Italian if he was to leave this summer.

Names such as Thomas Tuchel (more on that here) and Maurizio Sarri have been touted in the press, but the name that has got Spurs fans most excited is Mauricio Pochettino.

The rumours of a Poch return have seemed to gain traction in recent days, with Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb (via HITC) stating that direct talks have reportedly begun between Poch’s representatives and the club.

The Argentinian of course spent five fruitful years at Tottenham, taking them to there first-ever Champions League final as well as leading the club to its highest-ever Premier League finish.

Since leaving Spurs in 2019, Poch has gone on to manage French giants Paris-Saint Germain – winning Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France while in Paris.

During his time as PSG manager, the rumours of a return always lingered in the background, making it seem a return was inventible.

Poch also seems open to a Tottenham return telling BT Sport in 2020:

“From the day that I left the club, my dream is to one day be back and finish the work we didn’t finish…”

“Deep inside I would like one day to be back, this club is special.”

The 50-year-old’s achievements while at Spurs would likely mean he would be greeted with open arms if he was to return to North London – with many fans including myself falling in love with the club during Poch’s time as manager.
