Report: Ex-Spurs man praises club for offering ‘massive talent with massive potential’ new deal

|

Alan Hutton has lavished Tottenham with praise following reports that the club are beginning the stages of tying Japhet Tanganga down to a new deal.

The former Scotland international admitted to Football Insider that he is impressed with Spurs’ eagerness to sign the 20-year-old defender to a new contract after Tanganga’s impressive start to first-team football with Tottenham in recent weeks, with the youngster starring against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City since the turn of the year.

And Hutton is a fan of the youngster, with the former Tottenham fullback claiming that Tanganga is a player who has flourished in the senior team since unexpectedly being selected by Jose Mourinho against Liverpool last month.

Is Tanganga a future Tottenham captain?

Yes

No

The Glaswegian defender said: “Everybody’s going to look at it and say it’s a massive pay rise, but I actually do think he is worth. You’ve got a player who is on a grand a week giving his all for the team. I thought, to get thrown in against Liverpool, he was brilliant. He was outstanding. He handled it so well,” with Hutton later adding: “I think Mourinho can mould him into the player that he wants, help him to grow as a player. He is worth it. He’s only going to get better. He’s a massive talent with massive potential.”

With The Evening Standard reporting last week that Tanganga is in line to be offered a £15,000-per-week deal with the north London club, it seemingly appears that both Tottenham and Mourinho have big plans for the academy graduate that has taken to first-team football like a duck to water, and with the youngster continuing to impress on the grandest of stages, a new contract could be announced sooner rather than later.
