Report Claims Personal Terms Agreed But Spurs Stall On Transfer Fee Talks

|

With previous reports linking Italian Serie A side Napoli with a potential summer move for Tottenham Hotspur and England right back Kieran Trippier, it was claimed on Monday that things had taken a step forward.

Trippier’s other half was even reported, a few weeks back, to have been out to Napoli school hunting for their kids as the rumour mill stepped up a gear then, but Il Mattino the (via Daily Mail were claiming on Monday that the side have now agreed terms with the 28-year-old and they were now waiting to agree a fee with the club directly – however the expectation is that with the Champions League Final against Liverpool on the horizon, we won’t be opening talks with them until that game has passed.

That doesn’t actually make sense to me as a claim, if as reported, we want to move Trippier on this summer talks can quite happily go on in the background as it won’t affect the player as he’ll already know whether he expects to be here next season or not.

Stalling things creates a doubt for him, and if he is off, then we want him in the mindset of going out with a bang if selected, not sitting there wondering where his kids might be at school next and if he has held talks with them, then we’d have given permission after all.

Trippier’s recent words don’t seem to suggest he’s angling for a move though, but it wouldn’t be the first time the media have created a complete fabrication to fill a few column inches.
