Motson Explains What Would “Surprise” Him At Spurs As He Identifies Weakness

|

Longtime commentator John Motson has been speaking about Tottenham Hotspur recently, and he believes that we are nailed on to sign at least two, if not three, players to improve the overall group this summer.

Speaking to Talksport on Monday afternoon (2.55pm), Motson praised the group for achieving top four again and making it to the Champions League Final, but he did point out that two or three players had to come in this summer simply to improve the bench options available to us with manager Mauricio Pochettino having to name youngsters at times given the injury situation across the year.

“Well they’ve certainly got to improve and increase the squad because the bench at the times towards the end of the season didn’t look as strong as the other competitors at their level. Yeah I think what is it two transfer windows without a signing and Lucas Moura was the last player they bought? I think they have to, I mean they will, I’d be very surprised if we weren’t sitting here in August with Tottenham having at least two if not three new players.”

There’s nothing really groundbreaking in his comments, and not something that hasn’t already been noticed and discussed by fans, as even though we know Poch likes to bring through youth players and give them an opportunity, at points it’s hard to argue some were there purely because we had no other choice.

Two or three with no sales is probably right, but if Poch is going to get his wish and he’s allowed to open a new chapter at Spurs, we won’t be signing two or three to bolster the depth of the side, it’ll be (as we know there will be departures) at least five or six in total, but three instantly to improve the first team as the depth comes as some others go from first to second choice.
