Report: Atletico Madrid make £22m bid for £65k-per-week Tottenham man

|

According to Gazette dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Atletico Madrid have made a bid of £22m + bonuses for Kieran Trippier and will battle Napoli for his signature. The 28-year-old has been short of form under Mauricio Pochettino and is reportedly up for sale this summer.

Trippier has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating six goas. The England international has racked up 2278 minutes of Premier League football, making 49 chances and averaging 57 passes-per-game with 79% accuracy.

He made 61 clearances, blocked 54 shots/passes/crosses, won 31 aerial duels (53%), whipped in 185 crosses with 29% accuracy and averaged a tackle (67) or interception (23) every 25 minutes. Spurs’ £65k-per-week defender was reportedly searching for houses in Italy, but Atleti are trying to hijack the deal.

Despite Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters spending the season largely on the periphery, Pochettino clearly has trust in the pair to replace Trippier on a permanent basis. Juanfran will be leaving Atleti this summer, leaving Diego Simeone with only Santiago Arias at right-back.

Trippier would provide stiff competition to the 27-year-old at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, but time will tell if Tottenham accept the bid and if the player is open to a move to Spain.
