Former Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko clearly had a stand out year for Tottenham Hotspur in the season of 2018/19 and his own improvement in performance levels and confidence was a huge part of our run to the Champions League Final and securing a top four spot yet again.
Having impressed plenty, the 29-year-old Frenchman was many fans’ pick for Player of the Year given his improvement but with right back issues now following the departure of Keiran Trippier and the injury to Juan Foyth (who seemed to be groomed for the role), Football London recently looked at our options and actually suggested the idea that Sissoko could fill in and do a job for us.
[@Football_LDN] Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko could now be utilised as a right-back this season should Spurs fail to sign another defender.
Sissoko’s pace, stamina, & spatial awareness could now make him an ideal choice for manager Mauricio Pochettino.#THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/nCvG0ZXkJg

Looking at the reaction amongst fans it seems that fans are split. Some see the sense, given his attributes, that he could do a good defensive job there, but equally, others are rightly concerned about his attacking game when it comes to the position.
I’m not so sure myself, with him excelling in midfield last season would we really want to interrupt that progress just as he finds his feet?
Makes perfect sense don’t want him on the bench and basically played rb whenever trippier was playing

So when we finally got some semblance of a dominant deep midfield we decided to take half of the double pivot and place it at RB

Way to destroy my hopes for the new season spurs

I said this ages ago
He looked fairly good there when he played in the champs final in that position— Alex Benson-Wilson (@alexbw11) August 5, 2019
Not a bad idea actually. I can see him having all the tools to succeed there.

Nope this won’t work at all. Sorry to say but it’s true. Having seen the GOAT playing RB in a number of champions league games against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and others I can say he wasn’t the GOAT, more like a lamb to be honest. His strengths don’t help us at RB.

He can't cross the ball and will be missed in mf

Agree, but honestly Sissoko playing there makes me feel safe ngl. He's defensively very good and has helped out a lot there already when Trippz was playing RB and constantly out of position.

Except he can't cross at all
