Opinion: When returning star eventually gets on the pitch Tottenham will have much better balance

|

When playing his best game and in a strong run of form, Moussa Sissoko is a player who simply cannot be matched by anyone in the Premier League at what he’s good at. The Frenchman is a serious talent, and whilst technically he may struggle, his ability as a ball-carrier in transition is unmatched.

Initially, we all saw Sissoko struggle for Spurs, but since he moved into a central-midfield role he’s been incredible, and whilst the Lilywhites have missed him as he’s recovered from a knee injury, the likelihood is that when football returns, he should be return with it.

Football won’t be played until April 30th at the very earliest (Sky Sports), and Sissoko has recently claimed that his knee is ‘fine’ and that he’s been back in training for a couple of weeks now (Tottenhamhotspur.com), something that would have been a major talking point had COVID-19 not been the story of the year.

So far this season in the Premier League, Sissoko has put up some impressive numbers. His ability driving forward with the ball shines through when you see he’s been averaging 1.6 dribbles per game and 1.1 tackles per game too, showcasing what he does best, winning the ball and moving through the thirds, as is showcased by his strengths, via WhoScored, of holding onto the ball and dribbling.

What makes Sissoko so important, though, is the fact that whilst Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks all impress with the ball at their feet when picking out teammates and showing off their passing range, they can’t match the powerful running and long strides of the fantastic Sissoko.

How many French players have played for Spurs in the Premier League?

Obviously we all have some wait between now and the return of the Premier League, but hopefully Tottenham supporters will get by a little easier knowing that when the game does finally come back, Sissoko will be itching to get some minutes under his belt.
