Opinion: Tottenham’s fortunes should improve when key man makes his return

|

The 2019/20 season is looking like one that Tottenham fans will be desperate to get through so far, given how poor the campaign has started. However, the Lilywhites could be set to face a change in fortunes as the supporters could soon be cheering on Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine midfield man has only managed a mere 44 minutes of action in the Premier League so far this season, Transfermarkt, although the main reason for that is the hip injury that’s kept him sidelined since the previous international break in which he suffered the knock whilst turning out for La Albiceleste.

However, when the Argentine can get back into the team at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium he could be the man to make up for the lack of midfield creativity that’s been absent since Christian Eriksen made the metaphorical move to Real Madrid in his head, a move which should actually happen in January.

What the Spurs fans will be looking for, though, is Lo Celso to step up and fill the void, something which he should be able to do when he returns to fitness around the end of the month. The latest news we have on the midfielder came from Football.London, who reiterated the timeline of November, stating that before the Brighton game Lo Celso was entering the final stages of rehabilitation.

When on the pitch, though, Lo Celso is one hell of a player. The 23-year-old, during his time with Real Betis last season, scored nine times and assisted a further four in La Liga, averaging two shots, 0.8 key passes and two dribbles per game as Betis worked their way to a 10th placed finish, as per WhoScored.

Those stats alone show what the Argentine is capable of, and when he can make his way into the side and get a run of games together, the fans should be able to try and forget about Eriksen and get behind life with Lo Celso pulling the strings.
