Opinion: Tottenham should not sign out-of-favour Juventus midfielder in January

|

Tottenham look set to part company with Christian Eriksen either in January or next summer, but the Lilywhites should be more selective of the bids they’ve received from suitors.

According to Le10Sport (h/t Football Italia), Juventus will offer Adrien Rabiot as part of their deal to sign the 27-year-old, but the move doesn’t favour Tottenham at all given Rabiot’s poor form in Italy.

The 24-year-old only joined Juve over the summer after running his contract down at Paris Saint-Germain, but Rabiot has struggled for playing time in Turin and may already be considering his future.

The Italian international has made four appearances in all competitions for Juve and finds himself behind the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Emre Can, Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira in the pecking order.

He already seems surplus to requirements at his new club, so why would Tottenham be so keen on his signature? Rabiot isn’t close to being a replacement for Christian Eriksen either.

He’s a deep-lying playmaker who can put in a tackle and retains possession, not someone who will score and create numerous chances each week.
