Official: Tottenham complete fifth summer signing, shirt number confirmed

|

Tottenham confirmed the return of Michel Vorm on a short-term contract. The 35-year-old is contracted until the end of the season and is the fifth signing made by Spurs – Jack Clarke (Leeds United), Tanguy Ndombele (Olympique Lyonnais), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Giovani Lo Celso (Real Betis). He’s also been assigned his old No.13 shirt.

Vorm left the club over the summer after his contract expired, but Hugo Lloris’ injury led the Lilywhites to bring him back for the remainder of the campaign. The Dutch international spent five years in London after his move from Swansea and went on to make 47 appearances in all competitions.

Paulo Gazzaniga has deputised for Lloris and featured twice in the Premier League so far. He’s conceded four goals, however, and Tottenham lost both games. The 27-year-old’s other appearance came in the EFL Cup against Colchester United (September 24) and saw Spurs bow out on penalties.

The experienced Vorm may stand a chance of edging ahead of the Argentine international as a result. Mauricio Pochettino needs a goalkeeper he can rely on, and Vorm did keep a clean sheet in 36% of his Tottenham appearances. He’s no slouch between the sticks.

Tottenham are fortunate such a talented player was still available on a free transfer.
