Opinion: Tottenham man proved in Bayern loss that he deserves more minutes

|

Tottenham supporters may not have seen the players they wanted to see or got the result they wanted to get when they travelled to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening. However, one an who did get some minutes under his belt did prove to those watching on just how good he can be.

That man was the young midfielder, Oliver Skipp. The 19-year-old stepped into the action for just 25 minutes at the end of the game and whilst he didn’t get loads of action and didn’t do anything spectacular, he showed his ability and should definitely be in Jose Mourinho’s plans going forward.

The young English midfield man is one who has the potential to go on and be truly incredible, and his brief cameo display against the German champions proved just that. His stats on the night were solid, and he certainly looked brighter than Eric Dier did during his 81 minutes.

In possession, Skipp didn’t do an awful lot in his 25 minutes, but that was more down to the fact that he came on with his side 3-1 down and the Lilywhites had an awful lot to do and not a lot of time with the ball. However, it was when Spurs were on the back foot and defending that Skipp excelled.

The young midfielder completed five passes with a 100% success rate as well as putting in one tackle, one interception and blocking one shot (WhoScored), which are decent numbers for a 19-year-old holding midfielder in what was just his second game in the Champions League.

Should Oliver Skipp be given more time at the club?

Yes

No

When coming on, Skipp certainly looked a lot less sluggish than Eric Dier has in the last few weeks, and given his ability to pass the ball out with crisp precision as well as get back and get his hands dirty defensively, he could thrive under Jose Mourinho, and just needs the chance to do so.
