Opinion: Tottenham fans finally got to see the best of key midfield man

|

It may have taken a few weeks, but it looks like the Lilywhites finally saw the very best of Tanguy Ndombele yesterday. The Frenchman has all the makings of a midfield powerhouse and whilst it was far from the most polished of performances from Tottenham on the weekend, Ndombele certainly starred.

The ex-Lyon man was sublime throughout every single one of his 78 minutes of action before being substituted for Eric Dier in the last 15 minutes. He bagged the opening goal and put in a performance to be proud of in the middle of the park, operating in a midfield diamond with Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.

If Tottenham fans can come to expect the sort of performance he put in against Southampton every week then they’ll have a very exciting player on their hands, even if his scoring the opener was something that might not happen that often.

Aside from the goal, though, Ndombele’s all-round play was amazing. From central midfield the Frenchman was sublime and he picked up a deserving 8/10 rating from Football.London, and if he can put in that kind of display going forward then it can only mean good things for the Lilywhites.

His WhoScored stats also showed how good he really is. With a rating of 8.23 from Ndombele was everywhere, aside from scoring he put in four tackles, made one interception, won six free-kicks for his side and even completed one key pass for his troubles too.

At both ends of the pitch, the midfield man showed his worth, and if can do similar again tonight when the Lilywhites host Bayern Munich in the Champions League then Mauricio Pochettino’s side have got an excellent chance of making it two wins in four days.
