Report: Juventus could sign Tottenham defender, Pochettino planning for his departure

|

According to Tuttosport (h/t Sport Witness), Juventus are interested in Toby Alderweireld and could sign the 30-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is already planning for his departure by considering Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez at centre-back next season while Eric Dier can provide cover at the heart of the defence too.

Manchester United could provide competition to Juventus for Alderweireld’s signature and are considering paying money up front to sign him in January rather than July.

Alderweireld has made 167 appearances since joining Tottenham from Atletico Madrid, scoring and creating 10 goals. The 30-year-old has featured in eight of Spurs’ nine games this season too.

The Lilywhites don’t want to lose their centre-back, but they’re not making much progress with contract talks and may be forced to cash in next year to fund a replacement.

Joachim Andersen (Sampdoria) & Nathan Ake (Bournemouth) were linked with Tottenham over the summer but no deal materialised.

The January transfer window will provide Tottenham with another opportunity to bolster their squad if Alderweireld does leave.
