Opinion: Tottenham can blow away rivals with audacious move for £76.5m man

|

This is something we never thought we’d see. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a sensational move for Juventus and Argentina star, Paulo Dybala. You can read the story from Football.London, but even after reading it the story is still hard to believe.

By his own lofty standards, Dybala had a poor year last season. In his 42 games, he managed just ten goals and five assists, Transfermarkt, but that may be down to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus. Even so, five of his goals were in the Champions League and the 25-year-old is a wonderful player.

If Dybala does make his way to Tottenham, it will cost the Lilywhites slightly more than his Transfermarkt valuation of £76.5m, as the story claims that the player, who Mauricio Pochettino is claimed to rate very highly, would be available for around £80m.

If that’s the case, not only would it be a second record-breaking signing this summer, but it would be a massively discounted deal seeing as it wasn’t long ago that the Old Lady were asking for a fee upwards of £100m for their Argentine goalscorer.

Should Dybala find his way to Tottenham, it would be a sensational piece of business. The Juventus man ended Tottenham’s Champions League dreams back in 2018 when he scored the decisive goal at Wembley in a last 16 tie, and he has plenty more to give in his career

Over the course of Dybala’s time at Juventus, he’s chimed in with an impressive 78 goals and 30 assists in his 182 games, and if he can knock up similar numbers at Tottenham should this transfer go ahead then there will be a lot of delighted Lilywhites.

Whether or not this deal relies upon an exit of Christian Eriksen is yet to be seen, but it’s hard to imagine the Lilywhites will be going into the season with all of Eriksen, Dybala and another linked Argentine Giovani Lo Celso at the club, give the fans the choice though, and a lot would pick Dybala.
