Opinion: If Tottenham are to shift star then they need to get on with it

|

Tottenham fans have made their position on this one very clear, Danny Rose is not one that they want to see sold. However, if the England left-back is to leave the club this summer, the sooner that he leaves the better, and for a number of reasons.

Back in early July, The Daily Mail claimed that Danny Rose headed an eight-man list of players available for transfer. Then, when Tottenham announced their tour squad for pre-season they claimed that Rose had been left at home as he looked to be out of the door.

That has been and gone, and Danny Rose is still a Tottenham player. The latest update has come in the form of an exclusive from The Sun, who have claimed that PSG are currently leading the race to sign the left-back, although if he is to leave it’s better he’s gone sooner rather than later.

Tottenham will pocket £20m from the sale of Rose, and if he is to leave then Daniel Levy will surely be keen to see that extra bit of cash before he starts to throw money in the direction of new signings. If this deal goes through too late then it may prevent the Lilywhites from reinvesting it, and that’s the last thing the fans need.

Ben Davies is the only other senior left-back at Tottenham alongside Rose, although we’ve seen both Harvey White and Anthony Georgiou used there during the on-going pre-season tour. That won’t be enough, though, and the talk is that Ryan Sessegnon will come in.

The Rose deal could be set to directly fund Sessegnon’s arrival, though, and as Tottenham’s business with regards to incomings has stalled since they announced both Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke on the same day, the sooner the next signing is announced the better, even if that means Rose has to go as soon as possible.
