Opinion: The Tottenham man who Mourinho cannot leave out at Stamford Bridge

|

There is a lot to be said for this current Tottenham squad. The Lilywhites have got some incredible talents in all areas of their side, yet when it comes to the upcoming clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, there is one man who has only been limited to cameo displays recently who needs to start.

That man is the impressive Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele. The former Lyon midfielder is a talent and a half, his ability to jink through tackles, pick passes and single-handedly carry Tottenham up the pitch into better areas is something that not many footballers possess.

However, as we said, Ndombele has only been limited to cameo appearances recently, and his introduction against RB Leipzig on Wednesday was a turning point in terms of momentum for the Lilywhites, even if they ultimately fell to a 1-0 home defeat in the Champions League.

In 16 appearances this season, with only ten of those coming as starts and just three of those outings seeing him complete 90 minutes (Transfermarkt), Ndombele has bagged two goals and two assists whilst also averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 2 dribbles per game in the Premier League (WhoScored).

Ndombele just has a mercurial edge that no one else in the team has, and whilst we’re yet to see the best of him in terms of dominating midfield displays owing to a number of niggling injury problems and a lack of fitness, he has to be used against Chelsea.

Is Tanguy Ndombele our best midfielder?

Yes!

No!

The Blues’ midfield pairing of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are going to be tough to break down, but having someone who can carry the ball through the thirds in the way that Ndombele does could be crucial to getting a result, and Mourinho has to understand this and throw him in from the start.
