Opinion: The one position that could still be made anyone’s at Tottenham under Mourinho

|

Under Mauricio Pochettino this season, the man who’s been most used and supposedly most trusted at right-back for Tottenham has been Serge Aurier. The Ivorian defender is one who plenty of fans have got very little time for, although he may find himself usurped under Jose Mourinho.

Before you jump to the comments section, we’re well aware that it was Aurier who started on Saturday against West Ham, but there is a lot that can still change under Mourinho, and only a handful of players are undroppable at the moment.

In Aurier, there is an inconsistent defender who at the first few signs of weakness could well find himself dropped and hung out to dry, and that’s where someone like Juan Foyth or Kyle Walker-Peters may be set to come in and show what they can do, something the fans would love to see.

It was reported by The Sunday Mirror (24/11; page 72) that Walker-Peters is the target for both Southampton and Crystal Palace this January, but that he’s set to snub both of the Premier League sides to fight for his place in north London, as Mourinho is supposedly giving everyone a clean slate.

If this does prove to be the case, then surely the young full-back can make a name for himself. The fans have got a lot of love for the players that are Tottenham born and bred through the academy, and Walker-Peters is one of those, so seeing him given a chance under Jose can only be a good thing.

Who should start at right-back for Tottenham Hotspur?

Serge Aurier

Juan Foyth

Kyle Walker-Peters

It will only be a good thing for Tottenham fans to see some rotation and other players being used at right-back to improve the performance levels, and it will be interesting to see who is used on the right f the back-four against Olympiacos tomorrow night.
