Opinion: The move that can make Jose Mourinho an instant hero at Tottenham

|

Jose Mourinho has got an awful lot of work to do to endear himself to the fans, and he would have had a lot of work to do even if he hadn’t been the man following on from fan favourite and Tottenham Hotspur legend Mauricio Pochettino. However, there is one key move that can endear him to the fans.

The Lilywhites have got an awful lot of fantastic players in their squad, but not all of them necessarily want to be there, which isn’t the most positive thing in the world. However, is Mourinho can come in and change that then he will certainly have made a huge step to becoming a hero in north London.

The three players who have been making the headlines for the wrong reasons with their contract situations are Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen. All three are vital to Spurs, but with the Belgian defenders aged 30 and 32 respectively, 27-year-old Eriksen is the biggest asset of the lot.

Unfortunately, this time next year t looks like he’ll be plying his trade elsewhere, be it in Spain or Italy, but he won’t be at Tottenham. However, should Jose Mourinho be able to convince the Dane to remain at the club and get him up for the challenge then it will be a huge step in the right direction.

After a summer of speculation, Eriksen ended the transfer window as a Tottenham player, although he didn’t take long to start making noise, as he claimed in early September that he wished sorting out his future was as easy in real life as it is on Football Manager (Sky Sports).

It’s hard to blame Eriksen for wanting out. Tottenham are trophyless since 2008, and every player wants to win silverware. However, now that Mourinho is in charge, his record of winning could be enough to convince Eriksen to stay, especially if the Portuguese tactician can show his abilities between now and January.

Can Mourinho one day win us a Premier League title?

Absolutely, he's a winner

No way, we're still Tottenham

It’s a long shot, but there is already murmurings that Mourinho is looking to keep Eriksen at the club, and an exclusive from The Mirror claimed that all three of the club’s contract rebels are intrigued by the prospect of working under the serial winner, so there s hope yet that Jose could win the fans over by holding onto his Danish midfield maestro.
