Opinion: Taking the positives where we can, Tottenham set to benefit hugely from postponement

|

We know, Tottenham fans, this is a very boring time to have your lives revolve around football, but we have to get on with things regardless of the postponement of the Premier League, and in all honesty, this break from football is a brilliant thing for the Lilywhites given the state of their squad at the moment.

Spurs fans may disagree and claim that having something to fill the void right now is much needed, but given that Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Moussa Sissoko are all injured, having a postponement of fixtures means that when these games are played there’s a much greater chance that the injured quartet will be fit and then the chances of winning are much greater.

Already, the Lilywhites have had games against Manchester United and West Ham that would have been played by now without those four injured players, and the recent news surrounding Moussa Sissoko (Tottenhamhotspur.com) seeing as he’s back in training and claims his knee is ‘fine’.

By the time the Premier League’s postponement period is over, on Apil 30th at the very earliest (Sky Sports), the chances are that all three of Kane, Son and Bergwijn will be back or at least close to a return by the time the Premier League is back in full swing.

It also helps that this break has come at a time when the Lilywhites were in dire form. Six games without a win had gone by since the last time Jose Mourinho masterminded that 3-2 win away at Aston Villa (Transfermarkt), and any chances of a top-four finish were slowly slipping away.

Will Tottenham finish in the top four this season?

Yes

No

Those chances will have been given a massive boost now, though. The hope will be that Wolves and Manchester United, who were both finding their form and building momentum in both the Premier League and Europa League can struggle to pick up where they left off after this lengthy pause, and whilst work is still there to be done, things have been made easier for Spurs.
