According to Sky Sports, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Frenkie De Jong and are looking to rival Tottenham for his signature. The Express say Mauricio Pochettino is considering a move for De Jong as a replacement for Christian Eriksen, but Spurs might struggle to convince the Dutch international to reject interest from Barca and PSG.
De Jong has made 65 appearances in all competitions since joining Ajax from Willem II in 2015. He spent a year with the u21s before being promoted to the first-team and hasn’t looked back. The midfielder has contributed four goals in 16 Eredivisie games this season, creating 20 chances and making 27 successful dribbles.
The 21-year-old averages a tackle or interception every 24 minutes and can operate in both defence and midfield. De Jong averages 80 passes-per-game with a 92% completion ratio. For Ajax, he can pull the string in midfield and isn’t afraid to take risks in possession. He’s capable of driving with the ball from deep and turning defence into attack in little time.
It’s not hard to see why Tottenham would look at De Jong to replace Eriksen, but the Londoners may struggle to bring him to London if Barcelona and PSG are interested.
