Opinion: 3 reasons why Tottenham might not sign Brazilian international in January

|

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in Malcom but have yet to make a bid for the Barcelona winger. Malcom has struggled for form, fitness and playing time at the Camp Nou since his summer move from Girondins Bordeaux and could be loaned out before the January transfer window closes.

With first-team football alluding Malcom, Tottenham were reportedly set to capitalise but they’re yet to make a bid. The Brazilian international would be a good addition to the squad, having scored and created 19 goals in 35 Ligue 1 games last season, but here are three reasons why a deal may not happen.

Despite a fervent need for an attacker, Tottenham don’t have much of a budget to add to their squad in January. A loan would be possible, but a permanent transfer looks highly unlikely. Spurs might be put off by Malcom’s poor fitness record this season too.

The 21-year-old has missed games due to a ligament injury and sprained ankle and might not be worth the gamble for Daniel Levy. Barcelona might oppose the idea of selling him too, given they only just signed him months previously. Malcom has spoken out about the stiff competition for places, but the consensus is that he’d rather fight for his place rather than give up mid-season.
