If there’s one thing that Mauricio Pochettino has been known for at Tottenham since his arrival, it’s his focus on youth development. With youngsters like Deele Alli, Hary Kane and Harry Winks all making their names in north London, the Argentine has been making magic in that regard for quite some time.
It’s a testament to his ability that he’s been able to do that whilst still improving the team more broadly, with Spurs turning into a genuine title contenders under his managership.
Unsurprisingly, his focus on youth has earned him a reputation, and a recent report from the Sun has suggested that Tottenham are leading the race for one of England’s most exciting young players – Ryan Sessegnon – thanks to Pochettino. Clearly, the player thinks that he’s got the best chance of developing under the manager, and that bodes well for Spurs both in this instance and moving forward.
For Pochettino, it’s no less than he deserves. He’s helped Tottenham succeed where so many other teams have failed, in that he’s allowed Tottenham to become the premier home of young talent in the country.
He’s put in so much hard work, and arguably sacrificed more immediate success in favour of managing Tottenham with a long-term vision – and that’s now paying off.
The manager deserves the chance to work with some of Europe’s best young talents, because he’s proven that he can provide the perfect platform for their development.
It’s good to see that he’s now being rewarded for his brilliant work, and if it helps Spurs too, then that’s all the better for us.
