Opinion: Mauricio Pochettino won’t sell 29-year-old Tottenham man in January, despite reports

|

Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail says Tottenham are open to offers for Danny Rose in January, but it doesn’t appear that Mauricio Pochettino is actually willing to let him go. The Daily Mail believe Spurs want dynamic fullbacks to provide pace and creativity out wide, but it’s worth noting that Rose has been a regular this season regardless.

Ben Davies has played second fiddle to the 29-year-old this season, racking up more minutes of football in the Champions League (180) than the Premier League (106). If Pochettino isn’t giving Davies much opportunity in the league, does he really view the Welsh international as an improvement on Rose?

After signing a new deal over the summer, Davies was tipped to be a regular at left-back while Rose nearly joined Watford. But after Davies underwent surgery on a groin injury and Rose’s move to Vicarage Road broke down, everything changed – Pochettino started Rose in eight of Tottenham’s nine league games and relegated Davies to a backup role.

So despite the Daily Mail believing Rose could be one of five players sold in January, it’s far more likely he’ll stick around for the rest of the season.
