Opinion: Mauricio Pochettino could start Tottenham defender against Leicester City

|

Mauricio Pochettino rested Danny Rose in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Olympiacos and could recall the Tottenham defender against Leicester City on Saturday.

Ben Davies started at left-back in midweek, but BBC Sport believe the 26-year-old is likely to be replaced by Rose.

Davies could have been first-choice in defence when Rose’s future was uncertain, but the Welsh international had surgery on a groin injury over the summer which kept him sidelined earlier in the season.

Rose opted to remain at Tottenham and has been a regular for Pochettino ever since – he’s made five league appearances.

Ryan Sessegnon is likely to miss out on Saturday too, but he will provide competition at left-back when he makes a full recovery from a hamstring injury.

The Spurs manager will be spoilt for choice in the coming weeks.

Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League with eight points from five games this season, but their away form has been a problem.

Spurs have two points from a possible six on the road and face a Leicester side boasting one win and one draw from their two home games in 2019/20.
