Explained: Why Tottenham have left Danny Rose out of the squad to face Olympiacos

|

As per Football.London, Danny Rose didn’t travel with the Tottenham squad to face Olympiacos in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, likely down to his excessive playing time this season. Mauricio Pochettino stated he would be rotating his squad to allow some first-teamers a rest, and that means Rose will be one player supporters won’t see at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a major turnaround of fortunes at Tottenham. He’s started all five of Spurs’ Premier League encounters, keeping Ben Davies on the bench, despite almost leaving during the summer transfer window. Pochettino maintained his faith in Rose and has been rewarded with impressive performances in the last few weeks.

At one point, it appeared Davies would be first-choice at left-back when he signed a new deal ahead of the new season, but he’s amassed only 16 minutes of Premier League football since. The 26-year-old had groin surgery over the summer and was eased back slowly. Rose was given the nod and hasn’t looked back.

Davies is expected to start on Wednesday night, however, after travelling with the squad for their Champions League opener.
