Opinion: Jose Mourinho will win nothing at Tottenham unless he changes this stubborn view

|

Tottenham fans have got an awful lot of players that they’ve seen linked to their club over the last few transfer windows who would improve their side no end. Many of the linked right-backs and central-midfielders would provide an instant improvement to their side, and Jose Mourinho needs to act.

Back in November when the Portuguese manager was given the Spurs job just a day after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked, the Lilywhites were given the news from Jose himself that there would not be many new signings as the transfer budget was lacking (The Guardian), as he talked up the academy and the players Spurs already have.

However, the Lilywhites really haven’t got the type of depth or quality behind their starting eleven that Mourinho will be used to having, and if the Portuguese tactician is to continue his winning streak and gain some silverware at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium then he will need to spend some money.

That’s where Mourinho’s mindset has to change. The 56-year-old has got loads of pedigree at the top level of the game but he has to go back on what he previously said and splash some cash. Things need to change at Spurs, and the best way to do that is to bring in some new faces.

We’ve already seen Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon come into the side, but the rebuild at Spurs is far from complete and now it’s up to Mourinho to finish the job that Mauricio Pochettino started, reforming this side and putting the final tweaks onto the job that the Argentine started.

Will we have a big transfer window?

Yes

No

That has to start now. Mourinho’s Tottenham team isn’t what the ex-Real Madrid man will be used to and with the window currently open, Jose simply has to act, whether he’s looking for short-term options to make Spurs competitive now or looking for a younger option or two to mould into successful players later down the line.
