Report: Spurs join European heavyweights in race for defender who is ‘ready for a new adventure’

|

Tottenham have reportedly joined the likes of Juventus and AS Roma in the pursuit of Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj, but neither side are likely to tempt the Serie A side into selling the fullback this month.

Tuttosport report via Sport Witness that Spurs are keen on the Albian international, however, any deal for right-back will likely take place in the summer transfer window with Napoli unwilling to sell the Hysaj in January, who has only just returned to the starting XI for the Italian side following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti as stats from Transfermarkt show.

Hysaj is a player that has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Manchester City and Manchester United both linked with the former Empoli defender as reported by TalkSPORT and Sky Italia before the arrivals of Joao Cancelo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka respectively for both clubs.

Will Tottenham be active in the January window?

Yes! We have to be!

No! Daniel Levy won't spend

And with the defender stating his desire to leave Napoli last summer in an interview with Albanian broadcaster Digitalb via Team Talk, with Hysaj saying: “I am absolutely ready for a new adventure because I need to change. I am not the type who always likes being in the same team and in the same environment and tell me that I feel good, that I don’t want anything more,” Tottenham could be preparing a move for the Serie A fullback soon.

It is no secret that Jose Mourinho is keen to make changes to the Tottenham defence, with the Portuguese manager admitting to The Daily Mail that he is unhappy with the club’s current backline, and Hysaj could be the player the former Manchester United boss brings in to strengthen the right-back position that has been shaky under Serge Aurier.

With Hysaj seemingly keen on departing Napoli and open to a move outside of Italy, Tottenham could well find themselves in the driving seat for the talented defender in the summer despite the north London club’s urge for a new right-back in this window.
