Opinion: Is there a crisis at Tottenham Hotspur? Breaking it down and giving our verdict

|

There’s no point in beating around the bush here. Tottenham’s 2019/20 season has, so far, been a story of inconsistencies and disappointments. Draws away at Arsenal and Manchester City have been impressive, whilst losses at home to Newcastle and THAT Colchester shambles are obvious lows.

In and around those four games we’ve mentioned there have been wins against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to go with a draw at Olympiacos in Europe and a loss away at Leicester City, so rhythm has been hard to come by and we’re yet to see the real Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s where we get onto the question, are we in a crisis situation at Tottenham? We’re in a moment where the hashtag ‘PochOut’ is trending on Twitter and the club have failed to win a single away game in domestic competitions in 12 attempts.

We know these things don’t look great, but let’s just take a step back for a minute and look at the bigger picture for a moment. Last season saw the Lilywhites take to the pitch on 58 occasions. There were 38 games in the league, 13 in Europe and seven in domestic cups, so far this season we’ve seen just eight matches.

It is incredibly hard to draw conclusions from just 720 minutes of football, and with new players bedding in and a few injury issues, plus the problems with certain players not being in the right place mentally, it can be easy for a rough patch to develop.

So, to put it into simple terms: Tottenham are certainly NOT in a crisis, and with the club’s next five games bringing home clashes with Southampton, Bayern Munich, Watford and Crvena Zvezda as well as an away trip to Brighton, four wins would certainly end speculation around Poch’s future and would have fans saying that ‘Tottenham are back’ so it’s certainly time to drop the panic for now.
