Have Your Say – “Stuttered & Spluttered” – Fan Pinpoints The Cause Of Spurs Slump

It’s hard to know exactly what is wrong internally at Tottenham just now, but there is a core shift in the dynamic of how Spurs are running as a club which is affecting performances both individually and collectively alike.

Gone is the fast pressing attacking style which made Tottenham so exciting to watch in recent years, replaced now by a laboured, predictable and puzzling style of football which sees us largely ineffectual going forward and worryingly haphazard in defence.

Maybe there is a lack of team cohesion, as there are certainly players out there who presently are either simply not pulling their weight or are just not good enough to suit the standards set. A little surprisingly perhaps many now seem to be looking to Pochettino as the root cause for this worrying loss of form, but closer inspection may well reveal the true nature of the problem lies within Levy’s overall recruitment strategy stemming back over a number of seasons.

Indeed where other premier clubs have continued to bolster and strengthen regularly over the years identifying key positions of weakness Spurs have stuttered and spluttered in their own transfer activity often failing to address particular areas of importance, so much so that a clearly errant 18 month period of abstinence followed by an arguably largely disappointing summer of activity ( four signings with virtually no positive impact on the present squad and the highly questionable sale of our main right back) has led us to where we currently reside, a squad seemingly depleted, and burnt out and with seriously waning form that threatens a quite staggering loss of position if it continues in the same vein over the next several months.

I have long argued the shortcomings of our squad depth and the board’s lack of real footballing ambition, and fear that the weight of expectation has finally caught up with the reality of what has truly been neglected. The net result is a team now broken, disillusioned and in clearly in disarray and I don’t see a quick fix that will suddenly resolve these conflicts and that is a major concern.
