Opinion: Even if Pochettino leaves Tottenham, this vacant manager is not the right man

|

Tottenham fans, we know things have the potential to go very, very wrong at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino should not leave the club anytime soon, although if he does, there are fears over who the next manager will be at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

One of those who is being touted as the next man to take over the managerial reigns is none other than two-time Champions League winner, eight-time domestic league champion across England, Spain and Italy and four-time UEFA Men’s Best Coach, Jose Mourinho, honours as per Transfermarkt.

The rumours that Mourinho wants to manage at Tottenham have come via The Daily Mail, and it is certainly a worrying read for those associated with the club. Mourinho’s most recent job in management was at Manchester United, and the way that ended was hardly endorsing of the Portuguese tactician’s methods.

According to the article, Mourinho is willing to bide his time before delving back into management, and he’s eyeing up both Real Madrid and Tottenham as the potential clubs that pique his interest. So far the Sky Sports pundit has turned down Benfica and Guangzhou Evergrande, with Mourinho really waiting for the right opportunity.

For Mourinho to get the job, though, Pochettino has to leave and the Argentine has a £32m fee that the likes of Real Madrid or Manchester United will have to pay to take him, and if no one is prepared to pay that then Daniel Levy should not be prepared to part ways with him.

The journey which Pochettino has taken Tottenham on over the last half-decade has been incredible and letting him go for the supposed ‘instant success’ that Mourinho delivers would be undoing a lot of the hard work that has gone in over Poch’s time in London.

The next few months will be absolutely key for the manager situation at Tottenham, and it is absolutely key that the Lilywhites avoid the lure of Mourinho, hold onto Pochettino and ensure that they can continue to build in the Argentine’s image for the future.
