Opinion: Daniel Levy’s grave mistake this season has just become even bigger for Tottenham

|

Back in the summer transfer window, Tottenham supporters were left baffled as Fernando Llorente was allowed to leave the club at the end of his contract with no one coming in the other way to replace the club’s departing ‘plan b’ option.

Harry Kane was back to being the club’s only recognised senior striker, and it was just written in the stars that the England captain would find himself injured at some point throughout this season, something that came to happen on the 1st January.

Fortunately, that meant that Daniel Levy had a full month to sign a replacement striker, although no one was signed and it seemed that Heung-Min Son was the man being relied upon. Lo and behold, though, he’s now injured (tottenhamhotspur.com) and the club’s best two players at leading the line are out for the season.

The Lilywhites were in for both Krzystof Piatek and Olivier Giroud over the January window, yet the Polish striker signed for Hertha Berlin (BBC) and Chelsea ruled out any chance of their French forward leaving (BBC), with Spurs left struggling for depth and now without any kind of striker.

Levy stung Mauricio Pochettino during the Argentine’s time at the club as he failed to deliver the manager with a decent striker to play alongside Kane, and now Jose Mourinho is struggling with the same issues, and Levy won’t be the one taking the hit if the club’s form struggle as a result of not having a forward.

Will Jose Mourinho regret not signing a striker?

Yes

No

Levy has had a few blunders down the years in the transfer market. He’s also played some blinders, but those aren’t as easy to remember as the times that he’s left the Lilywhites in the lurch and this latest gaffe can certainly be added to the list as Tottenham now face an interesting few months.

Have been saying for a long time now that Dan Levy’s transfer dealings are killing the clubs footballing aspirations. Whilst Mourinho is battling with a squad that is clearly not playing to its optimum, far more should and could have been done, but as we all know these issues have been with Tottenham for too many years now with other people paying the price rather than Levy himself!

Its funny how this “decent striker” to play along side Kane doesn’t have a name isn’t it ? Almost like he doesn’t really exist.

It’s not seen as a mistake by them,it’s deliberate. They do not like spending money.
