Opinion: Assessing the Tottenham midfield man who deserves more game time

|

The midfield options at Tottenham this season are stacked out. Mauricio Pochettino has got so many different combinations of players that he can call upon, and when looking at his options for a double pivot the three that jump to mind are Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele.

Last season it was Winks and Sissoko who really made themselves the two undisputed options in that double pivot, although then Ndombele was signed over the summer for a massive £62.8m from Lyon (BBC) and now there is no set two for Pochettino to rely upon.

With that being said, it looks a lot as of late like the Argentine has started to make his decision over he wants to use at the base of his midfield, and it looks like the man who will be missing out is Winks, seeing as the 23-year-old England man has missed two of the Lilywhites last three games and only played the second half of the recent 1-1 draw to Sheffield United (Transfermarkt).

When looking into the stats that each of the three options have been posting, though, it makes for an interesting read. Obviously, with Sissoko’s age, it looks like Winks and Ndombele will be the two for the role in years to come, but right now there is a decision to make.

Is Tanguy Ndombele our best midfielder?

Yes!

No!

Winks has averaged a higher pass success rate than the French pair, as well as managing more interceptions, blocks and long balls per game than the other two (WhoScored) and if he can continue his numbers then Pochettino will surely have to bring him back into the fold sooner or later.

However, for now, with all three of the midfielders away on international duty it will be up to Pochettino to make his decisions and when the players return to club action and start preparing for a trip to West Ham, it could be time for Winks to make his return to the side.
