Opinion: Mauricio Pochettino won’t sign 32-year-old despite Tottenham crisis

|

According to Repubblica, Tottenham are interested in Eden Dzeko and could procure his signature to solve their crisis in attack. Harry Kane has been ruled out of action until March and Heung-min Son is currently representing the South Korean national team in the Asian Cup.

Fernando Llorente would be next in line to start up front, but the Spanish centre-forward has been short of form and is desperate to leave the club. Vincent Janssen has spent the season sidelined with injury and is largely unwanted by Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino could use the January transfer window to sign a replacement attacker, but he may not look to bring Dzeko back to England. The 32-year-old joined AS Roma on loan in 2015 and permanently in 2016 and has been in fantastic form overall, scoring 80 goals in 159 games.

He’d be a brilliant replacement for Harry Kane, but Roma would never agree to loan out the Bosnia-Herzegovina international and Tottenham wouldn’t want to sign a 32-year-old with no resale value just to cover their options in attack until March.

It would be short-term thinking and very difficult to sign the former Manchester City striker in January, so Spurs should avoid getting Dzeko.
