Opinion: 3 reasons why Pochettino won’t sell key Tottenham player to Real Madrid

|

According to Calciomercato, Real Madrid could sign Harry Kane this summer, with Los Blancos planning a £345m summer swoop for the Tottenham striker, Eden Hazard of Chelsea, Neymar of Paris Saint-Germain and Paulo Dybala of Juventus. There are three reasons why Real don’t stand a chance of signing Kane, however.

Firstly, Tottenham have no intention of selling Kane for any price. Spurs broke their wage structure to tie the 25-year-old down to a six-year deal worth £63m in June 2018 and are in a very strong negotiating position. Kane is valued at £171m by CIES but it’s hard to see any price Daniel Levy would accept.

Secondly, Kane has shown no desire to leave Tottenham. He has five years remaining on his existing deal and has long insisted he wants to become a legend. Winning trophies with Spurs means more to Kane than being successful at another club. He’d leave with a heavy heart.

Thirdly, Real Madrid don’t have the money. Los Blancos haven’t ever spent close to £345m in a single transfer window. Vital Spurs explained that Real are likely to sign Eden Hazard and be done with their transfer business this summer, so they certainly can’t afford a spree like Calciomercato think.
