‘Oh no’, ‘Ffs’, ‘Dear God’ – some fans aren’t happy with Tottenham’s starting XI vs Chelsea

|

Some fans aren’t pleased with Tottenham’s starting eleven against Chelsea and took to social media to make their feelings known. Supporters have a problem with Jan Vertonghen’s absence Mauricio Pochettino opting to start Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies at fullback. However, Vertonghen was left out due to injury while Danny Rose can’t play two games a week.

Spurs announced the following lineup: Hugo Lloris (captain), Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Heung-min Son, Harry Kane. The likes of Paulo Gazzaniga, Serge Aurier, Danny Rose, Juan Foyth, Victor Wanyama, Lucas Moura and Fernando Llorente were on the bench.

Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League table with 60 points from 27 games this season, coming off the back four wins from their last five. Pochettino’s men suffered a surprise defeat to Burnley which hampered their hopes of winning the title and come into the Chelsea clash with added pressure to get a result.

A win at Stamford Bridge could see Spurs halve the deficit to leaders Liverpool so long as the Reds lose to Watford. The Lilywhites did beat Chelsea away from home last season too. It’s worth noting that their 2017/18 win at Stamford Bridge is their only away victory to the Blues since the inception of the Premier League, so they have a tough task to come away with all three points.

Some fans are already pessimistic after seeing their starting lineup, however.
