Tottenham struggling to terminate Danny Rose’s contract

|

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are struggling to terminate Danny Rose’s contract because he won’t agree to a reduced compensation package. The 30-year-old is surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho, having been left out of the 25-man Premier League squad while being stripped of a squad number, but he wants to be paid in full before he’ll agree to a departure.

Repeated failure to offload Rose

Rose’s last appearance for us came in January and he was loaned out to Newcastle United not long after, so he’s been on the transfer list for most of 2020. We’ve been unable to locate a suitor willing to sign him permanently, however, which is why we’re considering termination.

Newcastle were in talks with us over a deal for Rose after his loan spell came to an end, but nothing materialised. Watford also showed an interest for the 30-year-old but failed to procure his signature too. It’s left us with a player who’s not part of our first-team but is eating up a portion of our wage bill.

Sad way to part company

Rose joined us from Leeds United in 2007 and has gone on to make 214 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals with 29 assists. The England international was deemed one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in 2016/17 before he suffered a serious knee injury in the New Year and spiralled into depression after such a lengthy layout and family tragedy.

Rose was never the same player upon his return and his Tottenham stay had an expiration date after that. It’s really sad that he’s going to end a 13-year association in such a negative manner and Rose may have regrets that he stayed as long as he did, but hopefully supporters will remember the good moments.

Prediction

Rose has gone back and forth on his decision to run down his contract at Tottenham, but he might play hardball here until we cave in. The England international is no longer playing football, not training with the first-team and will be a free transfer in 2021, so he has nothing to lose.
