NBA star takes dig at Spurs on Twitter

|

It’s becoming a regular occurrence that Football and Basketball meet on social media, with plenty NBA superstars who are fans of teams in the Premier League.

Steph Curry, LeBron James and Luka Doncic are all big football fans, while the legendary Steve Nash, who also coaches NBA Championship hopefuls Brooklyn Nets, is a huge fan of Tottenham because of his family having grown up in the area.

New Orleans Pelicans player Josh Hart, however, is not so keen on our club – being a ‘die-hard’ Chelsea fan who always interacts with the club on Twitter.

And if Hart couldn’t have been disliked by Spurs fans more because of his affiliation with the Blues, he proved us all wrong yesterday on Twitter after the news about Gareth Bale returning to Real Madrid at the end of the season broke.

Hart said, “Bale really used Tottenham for training! Used Tottenham like it was G-League! No disrespect to the G-League,ย I played in the G-League for some games. You go there, get reps and work in. That’s what Bale just did with Tottenham!”

Essentially, the G-League is like the Championship in the English football pyramid – but you cannot get promoted to the NBA, so Hart is suggesting that Bale went to a lower-league club with no chance of winning the best trophies to get regular game time.

While he is right about the game time part, the lower-league comparison is a real kick in the groin – especially if you are a New Orleans Pelicans fan as well as a Spurs fan!

But Hart was countered by eagle-eyed Spurs fans on Twitter who remembered that he visited the new stadium, which is celebrating two years since it’s first test event, and also said ‘come on you Spurs’ to the camera, suggesting he isn’t so much of a Chelsea fan after all!

Either way, we don’t think he will be welcome in the stadium as a guest anymore!

San Antonio Spurs x Tottenham Hotspur collaboration on the cards?

There is only one Hotspur, but we aren’t the only Spurs around because San Antonio’s NBA team are also nicknamed as Spurs!

Due to the link between the names, a graphic designer called emmegraphicย designed a concept San Antonio Spurs x Tottenham Hotspur jersey which caught the eye of both the San Antonio Spurs and Tottenham twitter accounts.

We certainly would buy this, so fingers crossed that Spurs add this to the official shop where NFL, Nike and Korea National Team also sell merchandise on top of the Tottenham merchandise – so a collaboration between the NBA team and us does seem plausible!
