Match Thread – Will City Give Spurs A Bounce For Burnley

|

Just when you thought Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t fail to surprise, we put in a dogged and clinical display against Manchester City last weekend to take a very unexpected three points.

Despite Pep Guardiola’s side having far more of the ball and creating numerous efforts at goal, England striker Harry Kane was back to his finishing best as he helped himself to a brace, and January signing Dejan Kulusevski opened his club account four minutes in to hand us the early advantage.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley side on Wednesday evening will be another tough game though, and it’ll certainly play out differently from the last one as you’d expect manager Antonio Conte’s side to dominate here – with the only real questions being, can we keep it tight at the back and then take the inevitable chances that will come our way across the 90 minutes.

Unless I’ve missed someone, the only players likely to be out for this one will be Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga and Sergio Reguilon but we’ll have to wait for the official update with lingering Covid concerns.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Where were all the heros from last week?

  • 123spurs says:

Conte needs to sort this out fast, or it’s bye bye 4th, how embarrassing, humiliated yet again the laughing stock.

jod – re the discussion about our performance with City, you can cherry pick the stats you want and look at shots on target, but they had 21 shots on the night and we had 6. Stats such as xG exist for that very reason, and it’s no surprise that City’s xG on the night was higher than ours.

PY – if you’re looking for a time City carved us open, look no further than Cancelo’s chance in the first half, beating 3 defenders in our own box beofre putting the ball narrowly wide.

It won’t count as a shot on target but it could have easily ended in the back of the net. as I said, if City had finished slightly better on the night, it could have been a tennis score.

PY – you were saying we were going to beat Burnley, simple as that?

I think it is time for Spurs fans to look at the situation like it is. We are currently not consistent enough to challenge for top 4 and the best we can hope for this season is a lucky cup run and an EL place in the league.

That isn’t to say we can’t look ahead to better days with Conte, but at present the squad just isn’t capable of performing regularly enough to entertain any hope of a top 4 finish. That is the reality of where we are today.

The result against City was the exception, not the norm. The norm is that we are inconsistent going forward and have a soft underbelly defensively. All of those things can be fixed eventually with adequate recruitment, but it’ll take time and money.

Haha BS, do not take me to seriously, am just a lowly 60+ years Spurs fan, seen it all!

Me Optimistic….Mind it does get replies, so that job done.

I actually though we could fcuk this up as we always do when its important for us, but you will never see me being to down cast unless I have my angry Hat on. LOL! COYS

Will have to have another concert !!
Burnley played out of their skins Generally were better in midfield than us and by defending narrow dealt with any effective crosses we were able to produce . They generally had us worked out .
Have no complaints . We simply weren’t lucky enough or capable of getting a result vs a team in the bottom 3 !!
After the last 2 home defeats 4th is way beyond us and the way other sides are playing added to our home defeats we will be lucky to qualify for any European comp .

  • Spurfect One says:

Sessegnon by a country mile was our worse player today. He had ample opportunities to drive into the box and kept passing backwards, coupled with the fact he kept giving away silly fouls, a truly awful display from a player who looks lost, low on confidence and severely lacking in ability. I highly doubt he will ever progress to become a top elite player we need for that position.

  • 123spurs says:

Conte you brought on winks, you need to assess yourself 1st. Resign if you ain’t up for it

    • BelgianSpur says:

Who else was he going to play, then?

I am no fan of Winks per se, but is,Conte bringing on Winks because that’s his preferred solution, or simply because he has no real better alternative? Let’s face it, Harvey White is no guarantee to do better.

  • Daniel Rossman says:

Just like Spurs, flying high in the clouds on Saturday and swimming in the gutter today. A wasted 1st half as a bottom feeder team was able to press us so as we couldn’t get the ball out of our side of the field. Yes Winks = loss. Our wing backs need to be better at keeping possession, holding the ball and making moves up the pitch. This system won’t work without that ability.

4 coaches, basically same team/squad, ask yourself?
