  • Geofspurs says:

On a brighter note …. they’re on the brink of war in the Ukraine, a world-wide pandemic continues to devastate the planet, global warming is creating flood and fire catastrophies on every continent, and the price of fuel is going through the roof.

    • PompeyYid says:

Yes Geof there is always something else far bloody worse than a bunch of highly paid Prima Donnas kicking a bag of wind.

My Missus has just failed a home Covid test.

More of a worry than Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Mind after the Lords Mayors show eh! yesterday. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Poor result yet again.
    Another frustrated manager.
It does look like it’s the team.
Conte was talking in riddles, at his press conference, veiled hints at walking away, more or less saying he doesn’t manage teams who lose 4 out of 5 and who finish in 10 th or 14th in the league.
He presented an angry, frustrated figure, who knows he could be gone by the weekend.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse. ๐Ÿ™

  • Daniel Rossman says:

Just like Spurs, flying high in the clouds on Saturday and swimming in the gutter today. A wasted 1st half as a bottom feeder team was able to press us so as we couldnโ€™t get the ball out of our side of the field. Yes Winks = loss. Our wing backs need to be better at keeping possession, holding the ball and making moves up the pitch. This system wonโ€™t work without that ability.

  • Drdrums11 says:

Conte is now doubting himself. His candidness is refreshing and yet tragic as the same time.
โ€œ “Maybe I’m not so good. Yes, I’m not so good,” he said. “I think Tottenham called me to improve the situation. I’m too honest. But I’m too honest to close my eyes. You understand?

  • BelgianSpur says:

At least you have to give him credit for holding himself accountable.

The first things that come to mind are:

If he can’t fix it, who can?

    And

If he goes, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Someone was accusing Conte of looking for excuses and worrying about job protection a couple of weeks ago. Those comments should put that conversation to rest.

We are lucky to have him, not the other way around.

    • wentworth says:

Feel sorry for Conte. Doing his best with a very mediocre squad. Very poor bench. No decent youngsters. No investment since Poch. Poor signings.
Where is our faceless chairman? He is the problem.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Pathetic and childish from Conte again, yet again confirming my belief that he wants out and he wants to go before the summer. He won’t want to wait and see what happens in the summer transfer window (we all know that outcome). What does Levy do now, can he afford for yet another manager to go. Who in their right mind would come to Spurs now. We are a laughing stock.
Conte may not go yet but he will not be our manager at the start of next season.
This is the culmination of three years of gross incompetence from the top of the club.

  • Niall D says:

I’m with you there BS, at least the guy is showing some passion.
We are now on manager 3,4,or5 depending on how you look at it, and still the same issues exist.
Poor recruitment, lack of options from the bench to change the game.
I do think it is too early to walk away, I feel he (Conte) thought that he could’ve gotten us into top 4 or 5 this season, but that looks unattainable.
To walk away after a wet Wednesday in Burnley, has a hint of defeatest attitude about it.
And whilst he is passionate person, win lose or draw, it would be a poor showing to walk away now.
Or is Conte, trying to force the argument to get full autonomy for transfers, and actually get wholesale changes at Tottenham in personnel, perhaps telling Levey “I told you so” with this squad.
    A bit lost ATM.

    • BelgianSpur says:

The next days will tell us, but I actually think that rant was more aimed at the players than Levy.

“If you won’t play for me as if your life depended on it, I’ll go”.

For players like Kane, this will resonate.

  • Love totty says:

I would not be surprised if Conte is gone before Saturday or just after if we lose to Leeds. He may have calculated that the United job is up for grabs.

  • PompeyYid says:

I do feel for Conte, but some of this is his own making by sticking to 3-4-3, we just do not have the players/battlers for that system.

Ask yourselves with 3 up front do any of them defend from the front, not a bloody chance, excuse for Kulu, still bloody new, no excuse for other 2 Son n Kane, who me majority of the time are Prima Donnas.

    So go for 4-4-2
I believe we need to have a back 4, maybe…Dier-Romero-Rodon-Reggie

    Midfield 4, maybe…Kulu-Skippy-Hoj-Bentacur

Front 2, maybe….take your pick of 4 rotating.

Just my thoughts but I believe that set up makes us stronger in Defence and not get overrun in M’Field. COYS

  • Niall D says:

On the back of your comment, PY and not getting into the Kane argument yet again.
I noticed both Stan Collymore and Chris Sutton calling Kane out after the City game, more or less saying, he’s mugged us off this season, I’m not 100%on that saying, but to me it sounds, as if he hasn’t been putting the effort in, in other games.
I know that reinforces my earlier thoughts on Kane, but I thought he was improving post Christmas.
I didn’t see last nite’s game so can’t comment on performance, only the outcome.
But from what you have said not much pressing was done by our forwards.
Just a sad series of events, it can’t always be the manager tho, but I do agree that a different set up with a “fuller” midfield may be better, our RBs can’t do the wing back thing by the look of it.
Too many of our players are cruzing, and not fulfilling expectations.
I thought with the Summer and January clearouts we’d start to see some improvement, but it’s not consistent enough, some stats show measurable improvement, but little in the way of game wining results, if we’re honest and many don’t like it, we have been very Spursy, there’s no other phrase for it. ๐Ÿ™

    • Love totty says:

No I don’t accept that Harry is at fault. He does work hard but is only human and was obviously not settled at the start of the season. We are just too easy to play against. Either we cede possession in our own half or are ponderously slow to build an attack. It is less about the shape and more about the innate skill set of the players to pick from.

  • BelgianSpur says:

I wasn’t implying Kane wasn’t playing hard. I was saying that if Conte leaves, he will want to leave again.

Personally, I don’t think the problems are system-based. Maybe the system is a problem for some but I think the problems run far deeper than that.

As I said before, switching to a back 4 will improve some players but hurt others. And all this chopping and changing is going to do us no good in the long term. What’s the point of finishing 6th in a 4231 instead of 7th/8th in a 343? Marginal gains whilst jeopardising the future. Why?

  • Arky says:

Why are you lot hijacking the nickname of me club to insult me club ? Are you lot so downtrodden that your mentality accepts the degradation ? Only losers do this.

We are Spurs!! The whole lot of us, down to the tea lady. Have some self esteem, no have triple the serving. When you write this, do think yourself apart from Spurs ?

Do you think its just the team that will be viewed this way ? Somehow that word doesn’t leech in to describing you and future fans, many that will be born into this narration ?

Stop normalizing this, every team in every sport can/will/has at some point suffer this. Its NOT exclusive to us. I don’t care how hurt your feelings are stop taking it out on the one that you love.

    • PompeyYid says:

Probably a thumbs up there Arky, but bleedin hell its difficult, I have been a fan for 60+ years, and will carry on till I depart this planet!

My kids, well adults now, 5 of em, will carry on, as my grandkids, 13 of em.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi Arky
Very well and passionately placed argument, if only some of our encumbent players were as passionate over the last few seasons. Many have been pedestrian and indeed passive in their play.
It is actually in their remit to rid us of this sobriquet.
It used to mean that we played brilliantly scored 3 but lost to a last minute 4th goal.
Now it seems good for one game poor in another.
As I have said its up to the players to make us consistent.

  • Arky says:

    Hi Niall,
players come and go, so do managers but we the Spurs will remain. Be it in the stands, behind the sofas or across the world. Why perpetuate the negative connotation with the most unique name in all of footy ? Once it takes root, the stench of the stigma will hang around the club forever, ever waiting to rear its ugly head at the opportune time. It might even evolve to mean more and more negativity. Even our ‘appy hammer mod has given it a go at redefining the name. Why aid those who mock us ? Especially those in the media.

  • Niall D says:

    Disagree to a degree Arky
Not sure what age you are, but I like many remember, “Boring Boring Arsenal” being a nick name for a very long time, and indeed they were associated with that “saying” we virtually never hear that now, as they changed their manager, some players, playing style and silenced the critics.
So to a degree its up to our team and management to get some consistency, some passion grow a set and get out there dominate, dictate, and win games.
This will lose us that “nick name”

      Hi again PompeyYid,
to me its worth repeating, I see a well lived life there with you and yours.
Good on ya mate! Keep ’em close and keep ’em Spurs. COYS !
Apologizes for the redundancy to all others.

  • Arky says:

    Hello Niall D and PompeyYid,
If I have moved your thoughts a wee bit, I am happy. As difficult as it is, we can’t give in for nobody else will stand up for us. Its always counter productive to use negative reinforcements.
