Match Thread – Spursy Or A Statement – Time To Prove Our Credentials

|

Tottenham Hotspur have had a few hiccups in the 2020/21 campaign, but there is no denying it’s been a stellar season so far. Sitting top of the Premier League table and having qualified through for the latter stages of the Europa League has certainly seen us rack up the games and they don’t come much bigger than Wednesday evening’s clash with reigning PL Champions Liverpool.

12 games in, tied on 25 points and we have identical form on a W, D, L basis, with only goal difference separating us.

This match isn’t a decider, but naturally whoever does win, gains a small advantage and in many ways lays down a marker ahead of us ticking into January. We also can’t dismiss the added confidence boost such a win would bring, particularly for those hoping/fearing we will go Spursy and blow it.

Many will be expecting Liverpool to show a reaction after their poor Fulham performance, but we could be further boosted by a returning Gareth Bale after his illness, as manager Jose Mourinho was expecting him back for Wednesday. Japhet Tanganga and Erik Lamela remain out.

Fingers crossed we come out of this one in good spirits with Leicester City next up in an unforgiving fixture list.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

I think for tonight’s game JM will name an unchanged side, if he doesn’t I think it will come as a shock. COYS

    I agree about Bale, HT.
Would like to see him start, but probably not fit enough after “illness” and hadn’t been starting in Premier League anyway.

Re the full-backs, I dont’ really mind who starts.
Since Reguilon and Doherty have arrived, all of sudden Davies knows how to bomb forward and be creative and Aurier knows how to defend. I wouldn’t say there’s too much to pick between them, though Reguilon/Aurier are probably that bit more attack minded.

Whoever plays, just hope they go out there and show ’em how it’s done!
A few goals and a win will do (not that much to ask for, is it?)

    Hi PLY
    Good to see ya back.
Yep would be good to see Bale in the line up, even for 60 or so mins.
I’m much the same as you re defenders, except I feel Doh doesn’t give away as many free kicks as the much improved Aurier and whilst Regs is better going forward I feel Davies has the edge defensively.
    So six in half dozen.

If we play like we did in 2nd half against palace, we will end up with nothing, what a game to see can we compete, pool are hit n miss, our record at anfield is embarrassing, they can be exploited just as we can. A loss is not the end of the world going by other results. Lets given it our best shot. Coys. Come on jose double decker turbo bus

I think the gooners are stuck in self destruct mode!

  • 123spurs says:

I’m down but I’m not out… And neither are Spurs…

    We’ll be back… At the top…

  • 123spurs says:

Same ol same ol spurs. Last 5 minutes concentration needed and yet another set piece. Seem jose tactics is to sit back and hope for the best. Why didn’t we attack their weak points at the back. League is over now, just hope we can finish top4

  • 123spurs says:

We all know pool would score.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Bloody hell 123…..bit of an over reaction to suggest our challenge is over as a result of one loss in what is the most difficult away game in the PL!

  • Geofspurs says:

Disappointing, but great effort away at Anfield. Pool, as a squad, are 2 or 3 years ahead of us at the moment, but isn’t there a sense that we are catching up? Top four was the priority. We’re still top two with a lot of games to go. Gotta love football!

  • 123spurs says:

It was our full team against their weakened. Its just my gut feeling opinion. Time will only tell if I’m proved right or wrong. We never learn.

  • Geofspurs says:

There are three possible results in any game (apart from abandoned due to weather or lights failure). It could be argued that any of those three results would have been fair. In my opinion ….
