Match Thread – Spurs Will Be Ready For Roy As We Look To Raid The Palace

|

With another quick turnaround in the fixture list for Tottenham Hotspur, we certainly go into Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace in good spirits.

On the back of our successful Europa League Group battle that saw is finish in top spot, it’s been a steady campaign so far, albeit not spectacular – but with so many changes for our midweek clashes, we continue to see the benefit of that in the Premier League campaign with players in good form and remaining fresh.

Under Roy Hodgson, Palace refuse to roll over and despite not being very spectacular themselves, they are more than having a steady league campaign and we’ll have to be lively to work through their more defensive mindset – but we know there are goals in this team, so that shouldn’t be too much of a worry.

I doubt we’ll welcome Erik Lamela back for this one, but Serge Aurier’s knock might not prove to be anything to worry about.

Let’s hope we’re celebrating another win and we keep ourselves ahead of the chasing pack at the top of the table.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    Another win? Another clean sheet?

Another Son goal assisted by Kane? Another Kane goal assisted by Son?

The players, the manager and us the supporters happy, singing, smiling and celebrating?

    Why not?!

Top o the league, MO! Top o the World!

    Up the Spurs!

  • Geofspurs says:

OOps …. HT just said it all. Never mind, I might add something later! : – )

  • jod says:

There are two issues for Mourinho now. So far we have been playing counter attacking football very effectively in the league against teams that come at us. I can’t see Palace doing that so it will be interesting to see how Jose adjusts. The second issue is the upcoming fixtures. After Palace we play Liverpool three days later then Leicester four days after that. We’ve been turning out full strength sides in the league and weaker ones in the europa. But now we have three league games in seven days. So how do we rotate ? It will be interesting to see, of course the opposition have similar problems.

  • Geofspurs says:

jod … Very true. It would be a major boost to progress through the next three games with 6 points or more. Utilising the squad to its utmost advantage is the manager’s job …. and far from easy. So it will be very interesting and will give most of our players a good idea of where they stand in the great scheme of things.

It seems HT said it all, so all I can say is Come On You Spurs.

Thanks Danny for another great thread. COYS

! “Said it all” guys? I said nothing much at all! I just put up a series of throwaway questions. It was your cue to give some answers, not to say nothing at all yourselves… LOL!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Palace, as with Spurs, can and have played some very effective counter attacking football themselves this season. But in attack, they only ever seem to shine when Zaha is playing and on form… What I find so surprising over these past few seasons is the very poor goalscoring form of Benteke. He scored his first 2 goals this season in their last match, but had only just scored a total of 6 in the previous 3 seasons… (And we get concerned if Harry doesn’t score for just a couple of games)…

And although they scored 5 last week, conceding 1 to WBA, they are not the best defensively, even though they play that way and have a couple of very good defenders. Good, very experienced, but probably past their best.

On a good day they could make it very tough for us to score. On a bad day, they might just capitulate. They are inconsistent.

So, who knows what will happen…… But I confidently predict a Spurs win. 😉

    Eagles 1-4 Cockerels!

HT On this thread you say what we are saying…. keep going 🙂

  • Niall D says:

    HT
As usual I hope your prediction comes true. Like some, with socks and jumpers, my superstition is not to predict scores any more, as when I do…..
But like many around mid table, Palace can be a dangerous team epically if Saha is on form.
Let’s hope Benteke has scored his quota this season.
But I do think we will be too much for em.
And may even play a different style against them
    COYS 4 ever.

  • Niall D says:

Some talk about our play (currently) possession, stats, shots,
I’ve been keeping an eye on the Villa/Wolves game, hardly a classic.
Been about an hour and around 2 half chances created.
    So it ain’t just Spurs.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall…..I’ve just watched the same game, Villa fouled their way to an undeserved win with a late penalty after picking up 6 yellows and 1 red card. ‘Hardly a classic’ doesn’t come anywhere near how poor the game was! 🙂

  • Niall D says:

    100 % TQ.
Terrible game. Grealish could play for ManU or Liverpool with a mount of diving he does.
God you dare’nt look at and he’s down.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Well, definitely United Niall. :- )

I’m expecting a similar game tomorrow with Zaha throwing himself to the ground at every opportunity, it ruins my enjoyment of games.

  • Niall D says:

    TQ
Yes m8 not a fan of this “game man ship”.
As you say takes away from the game.
These guys who do this should be given a card, even in retrospect.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The Toffees have done us a big favour. 🙂

  • Geofspurs says:

Chelsea lose and the Manchester teams draw …. are the football gods beginning to smile on N17? We’ll know for sure if Pool drop points today and Spurs win.

Is Jose the special one, the chosen one, the lucky one, or …. insert an adjective. The next few months will provide a definitive answer. All eyes on the Tottenham Stadium (I wonder how long the name will apply).

Looking at the table, there must be an awful lot of depressed supporters in North London at the moment.

The way that PL football is going we may all need to learn Italian.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    You’ve lost me Geof……..why Italian?

Can’t see ‘Pool dropping points at Fulham sadly, they have been a bit better in their last couple of matches but their defence is no match for Liverpools attack!

    • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Sorry, mate, just a throw away line relating to a league that was/is known for its defensive style of football. : – )

Can’t see Pool dropping points either, but then a lot of things have happened this season that I could not see!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You’ve got to think it will be a tight match up against a Woy Hodgson side, I would be more than happy to take a 1-0 win but I think stats show we have a pretty good record at Palace?

  • Geofspurs says:

To be honest I expect better than a 1-0 win … but that would do the job.

  • Niall D says:

    Well Geof/TQ
I did allude in the last thread about Tottenham being like an Italian side, in taking a lead then defending it.
    Forza Spurs.

  • Geofspurs says:

ND …. Yes you did …. it was a good bit of alluding, too, if I may say so. : – )
