Match Thread – Spurs To Go A Wandering Against Wycombe

|

Fresh from our clinical, albeit not great, display against Sheffield United, the fixtures for Tottenham Hotspur have given us a small, but much needed break, and we aren’t in action again until next Monday where attentions again turn to a possible trip to Wembley.

Our next opponents are Championship team Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup and although the struggling side are bottom of the second tier table, the pattern this year for manager Jose Mourinho’s select XI has been to struggle against the strugglers.

As I type, the only injury I’m aware of is the long standing issue with Giovani Lo Celso and even if a knock or two was picked up in the last match, the week’s break here should do the trick, so it again becomes about how much Mourinho wants to tinker with an eye to the fixtures ahead.

Let’s be honest though, banana skin or not, this is another of those games fe4w won’t expect us to win and win comfortably at that. Let’s hope we’ve got our shooting boots on again.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

BelgianSpur – Not sure experience really mattered. I think Toby understood exactly what the centre forward was going to do but such was the physical mismatch he couldn’t do much about it. He probably won’t have to deal with a situation like that for the rest of the season.

There are plenty of ways to deal with a physical striker, whether that’s cutting off the supply by anticipating the pass, or standing off of him and giving him nowhere to go. I though he could/should have handled it better.

I have just watched the game again and as I said earlier Gareth Bale had a decent game, his movement off the ball was very good, and as I also said earlier he is not match fit, but he is getting there, once fully up to speed and ring ready he will score goals, plenty of them, if he had been really “ready!” last night he would have got a hattrick, simple as that.

I am also thinking that maybe just maybe Spurs ought to take a closer look at their striker, big lad, who basically bullied our CD’s, could be worth a look. COYS

    Good post there.
Bale certainly did improve in that game, still a ways to go, but a truly decent performance, at least he’s having a crack at goal and endeavouring to get past people with some success, let’s hope he keeps it up. He was up there IMO for MOM.
Didn’t this team nearly beat us at home about 3 years ago when we were supposed to be brilliant under (The (sainted) Poch we just scraped through around 92 mins.
Much of the Wycombe team were still there.
It does need to be borne in mind that in many ways these are special occasions and the lower teams do give it all for around an hour or so(see Man C result).
In reality we were the better team.
As BS says still in the mix for 4 competitions
Roll on Liverpool we owe em one.

    Hi guys

Yes Bale did have a reasonable game producing some classy moments and a well anticipated goal . Yes it was his best game so far but the opposition were bottom of the Championship . He also produced some good moments vs Marine .

I am gradually warming ( slowly ) to him but am cynical about his motives for joining us . However he is here and if he can continue to improve adding quality to our mid field / offensive options then I will be pleased to alter my initial opinion of him .

Let’s see how he gets on against top Premier sides if JM will pick him .
