Match Thread – Spurs Need Some FA Cup Relief Against Norwich

|

With three defeats on the spin across all competitions, Tottenham Hotspur are back in action this Wednesday evening as we welcome Norwich City to White Hart Lane for our FA Cup fifth round clash.

Manager Joe Mourinho’s choices will again be limited owing to the injury issues we have at the club, but scoring continues to be the least of our concerns – defensively we simply have to tighten up and improve and many fans continue to question the gaffer’s team selections even if he does have half a hand tied behind his back.

Norwich...

Win

Draw

Lose

Not least the fact that against Wolves he went with neither Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen.

Norwich have proven themselves to be plucky this year, despite the 20th position they occupy in the top flight, so we will have to be on our toes at the back, but despite the element of round pegs in square holes in our attack, our hope would be to blow them out of sight given how they leak goals themselves.

Whether that proves to be the case or not, we simply have to wait and see, but with ongoing frustration in the fanbase, we simply cannot countenance a fourth possible defeat here.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

HT….I think you are probably right about Liverpool reaching burnout stage as we did.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Bayern?! I mean Atletico…

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Make the most of it …. the conversation is about to be terminated/interrupted. ; – )

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Yeah, I know Geof, it’s beyond a joke now. If we were paying customers (which we are in a way due to the flaming advertising) we would have terminated our subscriptions by now. It’s a wonder we haven’t all decamped to another Spurs forum.

TQ agreed re Lloris being captain and the need for a midfielder as captain. In fact that’s what we need a Midfield general. But where are they. Like many on this thread I’m lost as to what to think just rambling really. I’m glad we’re at least able to see it on BBC I player tonite.

    • Hot Tottingham says:

I think “midfield generals” are as old school as Mourinho’s stone age tactics… Sorry Jose… Sorry Niall!

  • PompeyYid says:

“Midfield General” nah! what this team/side needs is a good old RSM, Regimental Sergeant Major, plenty of discipline and a very loud gob, simple, they are the types that run things not your Generals, lol!

Now then now then me laddies lets have a win tonight. COYS

HT… Liverpool may well be suffering fatigue over this season, and last, as spurs seem to have… BUT Liverpool have on Champions League, beating our woeful display… All but run away with the PL title 2020. While we have won.. nothing. That is the reality of Spurs situation today.

However, as I am always a spurs optimistic fan, we are still in the CL and could make progress, if Jose and players start working as they should be. FA Cup is our way to win silverware this season…. But need a 25% improvement in players performance and Jose to do so. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

We always seem to be at a disadvantage these days, Norwich have had two extra recovery days over us for tonights game and Burnley will have had 7 days rest compared to less than 3 for us when we play on Saturday.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Danny, do you not think it’s time we had a proper statement from the powers that be at Vital recognising and explaining the nature of the issue, and what action they are taking to rectify it? An apology (from them not you) wouldn’t go amiss either!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Wow, two instant posts! was I a bit premature with the second?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Seems not, must have hit a sweet spot with those two! :- (

  • allan says:

TQ2 We had a whole weeks rest pre the Wolves match to their 2 day rest and we still lost !!!

So much clamour for Troy Parrott to be given a start tonight despite JM claiming he is not yet ready and is after all just 17 years of age. It got me thinking…..what happened to the previous hot prospect Kaziah Sterling?

Apparently, even at 21, he was sent out on loan on January 31st 2020 to Orient despite the fact we already knew that Kane was going to be out for a considerable period. Surely, if at 21, and having been the main striker in our U23’s for a time, he is still not considered capable of deputising for Kane what is the point of our academy system? It clearly isn’t doing what it is supposed to do!

  • PompeyYid says:

How about this, to cover our striker problem, give Tanganga a go up there, big boy, bully their defense, can head a ball, quick, has done very well everywhere else he has played, just a thought, lol! mad that it is, he couldn’t do any worse, with this madness am just trying to put a smile on my fellow Spurs fans faces. COYS

  • Loz says:

Jose being jose he wants a cup especially with us, he wants to say ”that’s how you do it’. Imagine his ego if he wins a cup with us.

Will we win one this season, i just don’t know.

Norwich i feel we will beat, but i want be surprised if we lose either. So much inconsistency and poor performances.

Im going with a 3 to 1 win though and if we get a good draw next round we may start believing but Arsenal, Chelsea still in it and may be other top teams as well by end of day.

Id rather get top 4 tbh but not sure we will. I think Chelsea are picking up since Geroiud started playing and beat us and Utd are playing better since Bruno joined. It can rake one player to make a difference, be a trigger of bringing it all together. Not sure we have that player, well we have but they are injured, Kane but also Ndombele.

If we want a trophy or top 4 better start playing better asap, something has to change.

  • 123spurs says:

Agree with HT regarding Jose and how he’s acting now. Hope he can prove us all wrong but it seems like it ain’t working out, we Def need. Huge over haul of players if Jose is staying.

  • 123spurs says:

Genius idea PY, Gary Doherty style, why the hell not, even if he runs around like a headless chicken, he would will still cause problems

  • TK says:

Victor Wanyama off to French speaking Canada in MLS. All the best, Victor. We shouldn’t forger how solid a performer he was for that one year for us before he got injured. Good Spur and we should appreciate we had him during that that year. Too bad he’s had to go where they think they are playing soccer.

  • Allan says:

    Hi PY
Thanks for response ref Yid chant .
Before I moved out of London in 1975 I cannot remember this type of chanting which is heard now ?
    Perhaps memory failing !!
However would be interested in hearing from anyone on the subject !
An interesting line up with Skipp . Hope it works out

    • PompeyYid says:

Allan….maybe we have similar memories lol!
To be honest I love the “Yid army ” chant, as a smash back at the racists anti’s that are Wham and Chavs. COYS
