Match Thread – Spurs Looking For A Bonus Against Bruce

|

With some decent positives to take from Tottenham Hotspur’s showing at the weekend in the North London derby against Arsenal, the individual player improvements we saw we definitely want to see carried through to the midweek clash with Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side.

Bruce has got Newcastle on a reasonably even keel in terms of their performance levels this season, but they have lost the last two games, so even despite our own mixed form this year, we have to go into this game looking for another win and all three points.

A European adventure for 2020/21 seems feels like a long way off given the points we have lost in recent times, but mathematically it is still possible if results elsewhere go our way, so we just have to keep that pressure on and take advantage of any slip-ups as they come along.

Whether manager Jose Mourinho can welcome anyone back for this tie remains to be seen – but we have to take the confidence shot and make it count as the games continue to come thick and fast, but there aren’t that many of them left.

Hmm – same team as against Arse if I’m not mistaken – wonder how long they’ll last and what kind of performance they can put in with only 2 full days rest?!

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Aurier and Winks continue to be the weak links here. Letโ€™s hope this time it will be different and if not, that they are subbed sooner than later. That goes for Sissoko too who is still far from his best form but his obvious replacement is not even on the bench for this game. Canโ€™t be because heโ€™s been playing too much football recently.

I’m not the best judge sadly lol but I’m getting success in Opera now. A further tweak has been made, I had confirmation come through this morning after a couple of emails yesterday. How’s everyone else finding things?

Not that good from Spurs. But a good 3 points…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Wasn’t spectacular but I thought we controlled the game pretty well. It is frustrating seeing our lack of composure and inventiveness around the opposition box.

Good away victory and workmanlike performance. What we could do with a Maximin to excite. I think Ginola and Bale were the the last exciting players we had.Since Dembele great dribbler, tackler and ball holder)and Eriksen ( superb two footed passer and shooter) left, we are pretty sterile in midfield. Sissoko is strong, Mr tippy tappy sideways Winks is fairly non existent, one footed Lo Celso is neat but can’t shoot, can’t pass, and can’t head, doesn’t score. (Same as one footed Lamela). We have two poor full backs. Yet another mistake from Aurier led to a goal. But we won and didn’t sit back. Harry Kane pleased to get two chances planted on his head. He doesn’t miss those. Sadly, we have no exciting Greenwoods to look forward to. What has happened to Sessegnon who was outstanding for Fulham? Where are our young stars of tomorrow? Is Ndombele injured again? What has happened to the brilliant play from Dele. We used to have 5 England internationals (Dier, Trippier, Winks, Dele, Kane) now we are down to one. Will we be able to sell to buy? We desperately need two attacking full backs, a skilful midfielder who can shoot and pass, and after many, many, seasons a reserve striker before Kane burns himself out and is injured yet again. Summer transfer window here we come. Always living in hope!!

That’s ironic, they get the site working properly and very few are around to celebrate! lol

    • Danny Winter says:

Once we’ve got a few members to confirm we are now 100% again, hopefully we’ll see a few more return again as people get back in the habit.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Page 3 must be imminent Danny, if you are doing a post match thread we’ll see if that is ok when it gets to page 2.

    • Danny Winter says:

We can’t be far off P3 I’d have thought. Yes, done the stats thread as a fresh thread like normal, but if all’s okay with P2/3 there as well, I’ll go back to just doing match threads so we’re completely back to normal and the discussion area isn’t as cluttered/comments split etc.
