Match Thread – Mourinho Will Be Looking For A Brucie Bonus Against Newcastle

|

With an unexpected rest in midweek and on the back of Thursday evening’s comfortable, but nervy, Qualifying Third Round tie against Shkendija, Tottenham Hotspur are quickly back in action on Sunday as we face Newcastle United at White Hart Lane.

With the club learning that we have been handed a bye through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup today, it means we face Chelsea in the next game but gain the advantage of having played one match fewer in this bizarre cramped run of fixtures.

As for Newcastle, manager Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly rotate the pack once again to help keep everyone fresh so we can expect returns for the likes of Matt Doherty and Hugo Lloris and we continue to be without Gareth Bale, but if fellow newbie Sergio Reguilon misses this one, I’d imagine he’ll be in contention for the Cup clash on Tuesday evening.

Form wise at this very early stage of the season, we are level pegging with the Geordies in the table but now we seem to have found our goalscoring boots, we should have every confidence of dispatching them and taking ourselves onto six points.

Always easier said than done though isn’t it.

Newcastle...

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Oh FFS! ……… Manu lead a very charmed life!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

How can you go back and do a VAR check after the final whistle has been blown?

  • PompeyYid says:

EJ, your right in figures for HK, as in games played and goals scored, bad me for getting them items wrong, though it still comes out as ditto percentages,%, as Geof asked for, that I had wrote prior about…

    Harry – 291 games x 65.64% = 191.01. note percentage lol!

Anyway in the end at this time the Great Jimmy Greaves is ahead of Our Arry, whether it be average or percentage, goals scored in games played for the Mighty Spurs.

So come on Harry, hurry up and catch up. COYS

  • wentworth says:

Robbery. Brighton were all over Man U and draw level at 90th minute. Who gets a penalty in 100th minute? Yep Man U. Robbery yet again. Brighton’s full back Lamptey needs a look at. Fast, tricky, 2 footed ( !!!), good crosser, young. By the way where are our young stars like Foden, Greenwood etc? Hope Jose stops bullying Dele. He has so much potential and we need a good squad. We are still missing a midfielder who can shoot, score goals, take free kicks, make long passes and use both feet! Come back Eriksen. You are sorely missed.

  • Niall D says:

    Well, well, well.
Looks like we’ve started where we finished. Man U awarded yet another DODGEY pem.
It’s the only way they can win games.
In the 100th minute and after the final whistle.
I told you all months ago, there is an overt bias toward Man U.
The ref et Al need to hang their heads in shame.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Niall D, everyone agrees it was a penalty. There is no bias towards Man U. Any ref would have given that decision under the current guidelines. The law may be stupid but it was a penalty.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s definitely the law which is ridiculous, how is a player expected to get out of the way of a ball headed down at their arm from 2 or 3 feet away? This is what…3 or 4 examples of a stupid ruling in the space of 2 weekends.

  • Niall D says:

    C’mon the Baggies.

  • El Jefe says:

I want to say LOL at Chelski – but 2nd half still to go and even more importantly Tuesday night at the new THS so will hold back for now and not tempt fate LOL!

Didn’t bother watching Utd or even Everton or Chelski currently even though got all of them live, etc (same with Wet Spam later and all tommorow’s games, Monday’s, etc and so on and so forth) – will watch MOTD and then look fwd to watching us live over the next 8 days on the separate 4 occassions – indeed here’s hoping for 4 wins all round ……..!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I get your drift EJ but couldn’t help laughing out load when the third goal went in on 27 minutes! 🙂

Bit of a comedown after their 6-0 mid-week demolition of ……………..Barnsley. Roman must be sending an invitation to Allegri to visit his yacht as we speak!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    *laughing out loud

  • El Jefe says:

See what I mean – solid comeback all things considered (still a very good result for us assuming we can win tomorrow and start putting pressure on those top 4 places already – no way did anyone really expect them not to pick up all 3 points today) but they’ll now have some decent back-up as regards having something to prove against us after that 3-0 drubbing in the 1st half there – let’s wait and see what happens – first we need a win 2row – then worry about Chelskia after ………..!

Very unwise to let Rudiger go without replacing with similar or even better quality (relying on old man Silva in a new and super tough and physical enviroment that is the Prem) – he’s easily their best overall defender and leaving their 2nd best in Azpilicueta on the bench so far this season from what I’ve seen – does not make any real sense – bit like Inter getting rid off Skriniar (their best CB and overall defender also) – but who are we to complain – fcuk Chelskia and get it done Levy/Hitchen LOL!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

WTF………….EJ, you were right to be cautious over taking the pi$$ but we have yet another handball incident that makes nonsense of the way the laws are interpreted by referees and VAR. Seemed to me the ball hit Havertz’s forearm/hand in the build up to Chelsea’s equaliser in the third minute of injury time. My understanding is that in this circumstance no matter how the handball occurred the goal cannot stand….and yet John Moss allowed it robbing WBA of two points. It’s becoming a complete mockery now!

  • El Jefe says:

No worries TQ mate – just had a feeling with another 45 mins all was not lost for them and they might even come back into it – so it proved! That said 3 goals conceded against West Brom, got to raise our hopes for being able to score at least 1 or 2 at home on Tuesday night for sure especially if the likes of Sonny and HK10 can be rolled out LOL – here’s hoping – would love to still be in with a shot in all 4 comp’s come the international break after next weekend ………..!

Will watch MOTD either tonight or 2row morning to catch up – some great games from the looks of things and very controversial on top – will be interesting for sure …..!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

EJ…..with Chelsea having the luxury of playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday while we play Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday it’s clear they have the ability to put out a full strength side for all three of their games if they wish while it is impossible for us to do that even for the first two! Sadly I fear we will have to prioritise Sunday and Thursday over the Carabao cup on Tuesday.

  • El Jefe says:

Fair play TQ – JM already pretty much said the same thing unfortunately – let’s see what happens 2row afternoon first of all and then move onto Tuesday night ……..!

I see some bigwig at Inter saying Skriniar not for sale even though now again on the bench tonight – hope it’s just a ploy to get more money out of us at the negotiating table over the next few days (bot doesn’t work LOL) – would love him to come in – indeed he’s their best CB and by far IMHO and would be a quality signing even around 45-50m Euros (what I reckon it will take absolute minimum) but let’s see what happens ………! I did say I had my doubts and that KMj was much more pluasible even if only a punt at around 15m Euros tops (13m up front plus 2m in extras as per the supposedly accepted Lazio offer)!

Seferovic scored for Benfica after coming on from the bench this evening also – hmmm probably makes him more likely to join us now and probably for more on top – bollox LOL ………….!

  • 123spurs says:

3 points, dont make it complicated, it will if jose fails with 3 points

  • El Jefe says:

So much for Conte’s 3 at the back and not counting on Skriniar – conceded 3 at home to Fiorentina – very lucky to have Martinez and Lukaku to pull them out of the siht!

Happily take the Slovak off his hands especially if he’s taking up space LOL …………!

123 – agreed let’s get the 3 points tomorrow and build further momentum for the rest of the week as well as the season …… here’s hoping anyway – COYS!

  • El Jefe says:

However, speaking after his side’s thrilling 4-3 Serie A win over Fiorentina on Saturday night, Inter boss Antonio Conte suggested that the club may have to seriously consider any forthcoming bids for Skriniar.

“Skriniar to Tottenham? He’s part of our project here at Inter,” he told Sky Sport, per Fabrizio Romano.

“But I don’t know if an important bid will arrive in the coming days… it’s possible that the club will consider it because of the financial situation”.

Hmm – just as I thought could be the case with the earlier statement by the director – Inter playing silly buggers to try and get the price up – hopefully DL, etc can stay calm and as firm as possible whilst still managing to secure Skriniar but obviously at the best price possible – tough job fair play but he’s got the experience, etc – hoping he can get the deal done if it’s on of course which appears to be!

Still not 100% confident though (given it’s a lot of money especially for us and especially this summer above all on top) but hoping and given what happened last weekend (Real’s 2 best players coming LOL) now more confident than I normally would be and what would Hitchen be doing in Milan if there was no real possibility, etc?!

Milik I would also hope for up to a point but having heard today he’s already had 2 cruciate injuries in the last few season’s and given Napoli still want around £22.5m or so plus he wants top wages then I’m not so confident on this one anymore and understand fully why the club might be or even are reluctant or not willing in fact – indeed we didn’t go for Wilson at £20m and on lower wages indeed perhaps much lower wages depending on which report to believe because of his injury record and he was relatively Prem proven so why should we take an even more/much more expensive risk on Milik?!

Probably have to look elsewhere – I also see JK has still not gone anywhere – perhaps waiting on a call from US LOL?!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Well………he’s maybe hoping for a friend request from you EJ! lol
