Match Thread – Crunch Time For Conte, Can Spurs Rise To The Challenge

|

It’s been another of those weeks for Tottenham Hotspur fans. Just as things began looking rosy under manager Antonio Conte and we were seriously looking like we’d establish ourselves as top four contenders for 2021/22 – the wheels inevitably fell off as we made the trip to Brentford last weekend and again failed to register a single shot on target.

Everyone knew Brentford would be a tough cookie to crack and although victory wasn’t guaranteed, we knew if we clicked up front again we should have more than enough for their defence – and that simply makes not testing their goalkeeper even once all the more frustrating, particularly as, although we had the possession, they were far more dangerous on the ball and did more with it.

Leicester City and Brendan Rodgers might be having a tough time of things at the moment, but with them up next at White Hart Lane, again, it’s not going to be another easy day for us, but if we hope to chase Arsenal down now with their advantage, it has to be a win.

Conte will be demanding that – can the players deliver?

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

As for this game, let’s hope we do not fall victims to the old adage …. there is no Spurs in Team.

    3-0

The great thing on this site when people start talking about money is they never tell you where its coming from. Its as if it’s just going to materialise out of thin air. So if “backing the manager” means spending cash we don’t actually have (which would be illegal under the rules anyway) it won’t happen. But obviously its much easier to criticise Levy for not spending pretend money than trying to figure out what we really can spend and how to get the most bang for our buck.

It’s so tiresome jod. It’s childlike and it’s cliched and it’s nonsense!

    That’s right Jod
We don’t have players to sell?
    I can count 10
We were (prior pandemic) the best finincial football model in the league, we have naming rights and investors coming in.
We have deferred loans, to take pressure off repayment.
So for me not all doom and gloom on the finance front.
There are quite a lot of players out there near the end of their contracts or on a free.
In short we can do, for me quite a bit of business, as I said it’s not about buying the best expensive player or a cheap prospect, it about buying the right player at the right price.
    But your right chum
I we listened to your words of wisdom, we would have bought Kulu and Bente as they weren’t good enough, we would be in 10th position in the league as we should’ve stopped trying to win in February, because you don’t want us finishing 5th
May be its me, I normally don’t drink during the day 🙄
    Anyhooo let’s just win today
Hope HT’s predicted score comes to light, Leicester are, a very lucky team, with diving and pens a big part of their repitoire. 😉

Jod – Arsenal with no European football and with less turnover than us spent £150m in the summer. The club charges the highest ticket prices in Europe, they rip the fans off at every opportunity, money is now coming in from additional events at the stadium. Money is there, it just needs to be cleverly spent unlike in the last few years. We currently have a weak squad both in numbers and quality. It is unbelievable that we left ourselves with no creativity in midfield, no quality with our wing backs (poor Emerson must be the worst Premier League player I have ever seen). We are totally reliant on Kane and Son having good games.
Worryingly we have looked incredibly leggy in the last two games. Has Conte’s regime taken it’s toll on the players.

Two big calls, Moura and Sess in. Let’s hope they justify their selection.

Interesting choice of Moira in for the Swede . More pace / energy since he hasn’t played much recently ? Hasn’t created much either . Will have to wait and see .
    Stuck with Emerson !!

    Romero! You beauty.
